THE WAGES OF OPEN BORDERS: Experts say Colorado pot shops will be targeted by Mexican drug cartels

It would appear that the Mexican drug cartels — which operate freely in the United States thanks to Democrats’ open borders policies — are not big fans of the marijuana legalization effort.

Taking over a trade once ruled by drug cartels and turning it into an all-cash business could make pot shops prime targets for extortion, black-market competition and robbery. One veteran border narcotics agent told FoxNews.com Colorado’s legal pot industry will find it hard to keep the criminals from horning in on a lucrative business they once controlled.

“Mexico is already in Colorado without the risks,” the agent, who requested anonymity, said of the state’s heavy pre-existing cartel presence. “Legal businesses will likely see a rise in extortion attempts while law enforcement will see a lot of backdoor deals being made.”

“What is quite possible is that cartels will hire straw owners who have clean records who can apply for a license, then sell large quantities both legally and on the black market.”
- Denver DEA office spokesman Albert Villasuso

Cartels, especially the Juarez and Sinaloa, who have a strong presence in Colorado, could not have been happy with the estimated $ 1 million in sales Jan. 1, the first day of legalized retail sales. In 2012 the Mexican Competitiveness Institute issued a report saying that Mexico’s cartels would lose as much as $ 1.425 billion if Colorado legalized marijuana. The organization also predicted that drug trafficking revenues would fall 20 to 30 percent, and the Sinaloa cartel, which would be the most affected, would lose up to 50 percent.

Faced with such losses, the violent cartels could force their way in as black market wholesalers or simply rob pot dispensaries, which take only cash and have not been able to establish accounts with banks because of lenders’ fears of violating federal laws. But the general consensus is that the Mexican cartels will not quietly relinquish the Denver market.

…even if legal stores do face extortion efforts by cartel groups it is unlikely law enforcement will even be made aware of it if merchants are too frightened to come to police. Extortion has proven to be a lucrative ancillary enterprise for cartels in Mexico resulting in thousands of businesses closing rather than pay the quota, as it is called, or the store owners face the threat of death, which too has occurred.

But by all means, let’s grant amnesty to millions of illegals who’ve not had even a cursory background check, are defrauding our welfare, tax and medical systems to the tune of billions of dollars each year, and whose allegiances are completely unknown.

IRS HITMAN LOIS LERNER LIED: Emails Prove She Targeted “Dangerous” Tea Party Groups

Guest post by Investor’s Business Daily

Politics: New emails show that the woman at the center of the IRS scandal over special scrutiny of conservative groups’ applications for tax-exempt status targeted tea party applications specifically and directed they be held up.

While a possible “wag the dog” attack on Syria and other “phony” scandals like Benghazi have grabbed the headlines, Congress has continued its investigation into the Obama administration’s targeting of tea party groups that sprang up in opposition to ObamaCare by the agency charged with enforcing it, the Internal Revenue Service.

In case anyone forgot, Lois Lerner, former head of the Exempt Organizations office of the IRS, who invoked her Fifth Amendment rights rather than tell what she did and knew about the targeting of tea party and other conservative groups, is still being paid with your tax dollars while on “administrative leave.”

Yet another reason for her silence has been unearthed by a 2011 email released by the House Ways and Means Committee in which the woman who claimed she had done nothing wrong admitted that the tea party was not only targeted, but targeted at her direction, in response to the Citizens United case that so outraged President Obama because it reaffirmed the free-speech rights of those who oppose him.

In the February 2011 email, Lerner advised her staff — including then-Exempt Organizations Technical Manager Michael Seto and then-Rulings and Agreements director Holly Paz — that a tea party matter is “very dangerous” and something “Counsel and (Lerner adviser) Judy Kindell need to be in on.” Lerner added: “Cincy should probably NOT have these cases.”

It was Paz, a D.C.-based top deputy in the IRS division that handled applications for tax-exempt status, who told congressional investigators she was personally involved in reviewing tea party applications for tax-exempt status as far back as 2010.

On May 22, the day after Paz was interviewed by investigators, Lerner refused to answer questions from lawmakers at a congressional hearing, citing her right not to incriminate herself.

Like the Internet video the Benghazi terrorist attack was blamed on, the only thing phony about the IRS scandal is the administration’s cover story that a couple of rogue agents in the Cincinnati office concocted and executed this most blatant abuse of power by the most powerful and feared agency of government. Lerner’s email further blows out of the water that discredited fiction.

It also confirms a suspected reason for the planned intimidation and hamstringing of conservative opposition to the Obama administration’s policies, saying that those tea party group applications for tax-exempt status could end up being the “vehicle to go to court” to get more clarity on the 2010 Supreme Court ruling on campaign finance rules.

This would explain the bizarre and repeated questionnaires requesting lists of donors, books members read, contents of their prayers, texts of speeches given before the group and whether any member is thinking of running for office. The Obama administration was gathering information for possible future court cases to gut Citizens United while it was keeping its political opponents at bay.

“There is increasing and overwhelming evidence that Lois Lerner and high-level IRS employees in Washington were abusing their power to prevent conservative groups from organizing and carrying out their missions,” Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, R-Mich., said of the emails from Lerner.

Using government power to target conservative opponents of liberal Democrats is nothing new for Lerner. As we’ve written, the IRS scandal may have its roots in “Chicago way” politics with the 1996 targeting of Illinois conservative Al Salvi by a familiar name, Lois Lerner, then head of the Enforcement Division of the Federal Elections Commission.

No need to plead the Fifth, Ms. Lerner. You’ve already incriminated yourself and the administration you serve, no matter how many times you and the president intone, “I am not a crook.”

BUT-BUT-BUT BUSH: Feds Admit Listening to U.S. phone calls without warrants, up to 1 million citizens targeted

The National Security Agency disclosed Saturday that thousands of its analysts can listen to domestic phone calls without warrants. That capability appears to extend to email and text messages as well.

The is a far different matter from the oh-so-controversial Bush program of wiretapping international phone calls to and from terror hotbeds.

The National Security Agency has acknowledged in a new classified briefing that it does not need court authorization to listen to domestic phone calls.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler, a New York Democrat, disclosed this week that during a secret briefing to members of Congress, he was told that the contents of a phone call could be accessed “simply based on an analyst deciding that”… If the NSA wants “to listen to the phone,” an analyst’s decision is sufficient, without any other legal authorization required, Nadler said he learned. “I was rather startled,” said Nadler, an attorney and congressman who serves on the House Judiciary committee.

Not only does this disclosure shed more light on how the NSA’s formidable eavesdropping apparatus works domestically, it also suggests the Justice Department has secretly interpreted federal surveillance law to permit thousands of low-ranking analysts to eavesdrop on phone calls… Nadler’s disclosure indicates the NSA analysts could also access the contents of Internet communications without going before a court and seeking approval.

The disclosure appears to confirm some of the allegations made by Edward Snowden, a former NSA infrastructure analyst who leaked classified documents to the Guardian. Snowden said in a video interview that, while not all NSA analysts had this ability, he could from Hawaii “wiretap anyone from you or your accountant to a federal judge to even the president.”

There are serious “constitutional problems” with this approach, said Kurt Opsahl, a senior staff attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation who has litigated warrantless wiretapping cases. “It epitomizes the problem of secret laws.”

[Furthermore,] the NSA records the phone calls of 500,000 to 1 million people who are on its so-called target list, and perhaps even more. “They look through these phone numbers and they target those and that’s what they record…”

…Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), the head of the Senate Intelligence committee, separately acknowledged this week that the agency’s analysts have the ability to access the “content of a call.”

…Jameel Jaffer, director of the ACLU’s Center for Democracy, says he was surprised to see the 2008 FISA Amendments Act be used to vacuum up information on American citizens. “Everyone who voted for the statute thought it was about international communications,” he said.

To recap:

• The NSA admits listening to U.S. phone calls without warrants;

• Federal officials are targeting up to 1 million people in the U.S.;

Curiously, Major Nidal Hasan and the Tsarnaev brothers were somehow overlooked.

Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, author of the PATRIOT Act, says that the law does not support these kinds of activity.

…Sensenbrenner, who introduced the PATRIOT Act on the House floor in 2001, has declared that lawmakers’ and the executive branch’s excuses about recent revelations of NSA activity are “a bunch of bunk.”

In an interview on Laura Ingraham’s radio show Wednesday morning, the Republican congressman from Wisconsin reiterated his concerns that the administration and the secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act court have gone far beyond what the PATRIOT Act intended. Specifically, he said that Section 215 of the act “was originally drafted to prevent data mining” on the scale that’s occurred.

Since we know that Obama’s political opposition has been relentlessly targeted by the instrumentalities of the federal government — including the Department of Labor, the EPA and the IRS — I have a sneaking suspicion that there are plenty of Tea Party activists, Constitutional conservatives, religious Christians, and Jews, on the list of this administration’s targets.

We are witnessing the de-evolution of this country into a Banana Republic.

QOTD: “Fox News Alert: The Five loves Christie’s “brilliance” in announcing a special election – Christie knows a Democrat, likely Booker, will get elected. He could have appointed a Republican to finish Lautenberg’s term. But that would not have gone down well with the liberals and Democrats Christie is pandering to. Furthermore, Christie keeps Booker off the ballot in November by setting the election in October in order not to draw attention and votes from his own election. And the cost, which Christie says he doesn’t care about, is $ 25 million. Christie insists this has nothing to do with politics. In fact, the people of New Jersey deserve it. And you should see and hear all the RINOs applauding this nonsense.” –Mark Levin
