“The most beautiful animal you’ve never seen”

RR Helm writing at Deep Sea News:

When I first saw a sea sapphire I thought I was hallucinating. The day had been anything but normal, but this part will always stand out. I’d spent the afternoon on a small dingy off the coast of Durban, South Africa. It was muggy, and I’d been working for hours–-throwing a small net out, and pulling in tiny hauls of plankton that I’d then collect in jars. As I looked through one jar, the boat rocking up and down, I saw for an instant a bright blue flash. Gone. Then again in a different place. An incredible shade of blue. Maybe I’d been in the sun too long? Maybe I was seeing things? It wasn’t until I got back to the lab that I discovered the true beauty and mystery of these radiant flashes…

The small creature I’d found was a Sapphirina copepod, or as I like to call it, a sea sapphire. Copepods are the rice of the sea, tiny shrimp-like animals at the base of the ocean food chain. And like rice, they are generally not known for their charisma. Sea sapphires are an exception. Though they are often small, a few millimeters, they are stunningly beautiful…

…The secret to the sea sapphire’s shine is in microscopic layers of crystal plates inside their cells. In the case of blue sea sapphires, these crystal layers are separated by only about four ten thousandths of a millimeter; about the same distance as a wavelength of blue light. When blue light bounces off these crystal layers, it is perfectly preserved and reflected. But for other colors of light, these small differences in distance interfere, causing the colors to cancel out. So while white light is composed of all colors, only blue light is reflected back. This type of coloration is known as structural coloration, and though resembling a gem in hue, a sea sapphire’s color has more in common with an oil sheen than a pigmented jewel. Combine this nifty trick with the sea sapphire’s impressively transparent body, and you have an animal as radiant as a star in one moment, and invisible in the next…

I think I saw something like this once in Lake Erie, but it could have been some trash wrapped in aluminum foil.

Uhm, any of y’all seen Reggie Love’s bong?

Hey, it’s not me.

It’s the Internets:

President Barack Obama left many viewers with the impression that he was stoned on drugs during his interview broadcast Friday night on NBC as part of the network’s coverage of the Sochi Olympics opening ceremony. The session with Bob Costas was taped Thursday by remote with Obama at the White House and Costas in Sochi, Russia.

This screen capture posted to Twitter by M. Joseph Parry shows Obama with droopy eyelids, bloodshot eyes and a droopy mouth.
Parry commented: “Uh, I am pretty sure President Obama is high in this NBC sports interview.”

…Parry was not alone in his observation. Twitter lit up with user’s astonishment at Obama’s stoned appearance in the interview.

Obama was a stoner in high school and college to the point he reportedly sucked the last wisp of pot smoke from the interior roof of cars when he and the choom gang, as he and his druggie friends called themselves, got high…

To be fair, I’m pretty sure Reagan was a stoner, too.

THE DUPLICITOUS CHRIS CHRISTIE: Man Who Refused to Oppose Obamacare Now Says It Was ‘A Train Wreck Anybody Could’ve Seen Coming’

Anybody could have seen it was a train wreck except him, apparently.

New Jersey’s Republican Governor Chris Christie slammed Obamacare as a “train wreck” in comments made at a Jersey radio station on November 25.

…Christie was asked why he didn’t join in on the state side and create a state exchange for Obamacare in New Jersey.
“This is just an awful law that made no sense and that’s why I didn’t get into a state exchange. And no, I have absolutely no regrets. In fact, I’m really glad that the train wreck’s not mine, it’s his,” the Governor said of Obama’s signature healthcare law.

Christie went on to slam the President as an example of someone who has never run anything in his life.
“This is a disaster. And it’s a train wreck that anybody who’s managed anything, ever in their lives could have seen coming.”
Governor Christie also said that the whole Obamacare program is a “failure.”

Christie’s comments are, at best, disingenuous.

This is a man who wouldn’t lift a finger to fight Obamacare, as Mark Levin observed at the time.

It costs nothing for the taxpayers of NJ to join the other states challenging Obamacare. All he needs to do is add his name on behalf of NJ to the other states. He didn’t take the lead and now he won’t bring up the rear. And just because Corzine ducked doesn’t mean he has to. For all the loud bravado, on this hugely important issue he’s a wimp. While others are doing all they can to kill Obamacare, spending the time and effort in federal court trying to protect the citizens of their states, Christie does nothing…

…Keep in mind that Obamacare creates massive new expenses for states via Medicaid. It’s fiscally irresponsible for Christie to sit on his butt and do nothin. Is this what they mean by frank talk? Maybe his supporters inside the beltway can help us better understand while they’re touting him for president.

I can’t wait for the 2016 election season to heat up.

Then we can hear the nation’s biggest electoral loser of 2012 — Karl “2% Victory Rate” Rove — whine that Christie is “the only one who can win”.

Which will be as accurate as his predictions about Mitt Romney in 2012 and John McCain in 2008.

Prepare For What’s Coming: “The Largest Financial Collapse This Planet Has Ever Seen”

Global Collapse

Over the course of the last six weeks, since the disastrous launch of health care exchanges mandated under the new Patient Affordable Care Act, we have been made privy to something most Americans didn’t believe was possible: that the government of the United States of America is being represented by thieves, liars and sycophants.

Every promise made by the President and Congressional democrats who supported Obamacare legislation has turned out to be a complete falsehood.

But what’s critical to our future well-being is that we understand that the machinations and conjecture are not restricted solely to the health care debacle. They pervade every aspect of government on the federal, state and local level alike.

We have been lied to on every front, as evidenced by revelations just yesterday that the Bureau of Labor and Statistics completely fabricated unemployment numbers in an effort to sway the 2012 election results. This is supposed to be an impartial, non-partisan agency whose sole purpose is to calculate numbers, and even that has been hijacked by agenda-driven politicians and special interests.

Whether we’re talking about health care, the economy, personal privacy, or national security, we must assume, unless proven otherwise, that we are being lied to.

Charlie McGrath of Wide Awake News explains the motivations behind this narrative that the majority of Americans simply don’t understand, or worse, avoid at all costs because it would destroy the very foundations of the  fantasy land in which they live.

The lies continue, non-stop. Govern by crisis, offer a lie for a solution, and continue to indebt this country.

Why? Because it isn’t about serving We the People. It is about serving financial special interests, plain and simple.

You’d better realize that and you better prepare for what’s coming, because inevitably, when this Ponzi scheme of stealing from our future in order to pay for fraudulence now comes to an end it is going to lead to the largest financial collapse this planet has ever seen… and most people are going to be absolutely blindsided by it.

As Charlie notes, no matter how deep one attempts to bury their head in the sand, you’d better prepare for what’s coming because the collapse of our entire way of life is, at this point, inevitable.

Or, you can go on pretending it’s not happening, that government officials care about you, that you’re going to have platinum health care coverage next year, and that tens of millions of people in America are not actually living in a modern day depression.

SHTF Plan – When It Hits The Fan, Don’t Say We Didn’t Warn You

Quite possibly the saddest photo I’ve ever seen. And the most damning.

For no other reason than spite, Barack Obama ordered the open-air World War II Memorial park closed and barricaded. In doing so, he intentionally shut the door on veterans visiting — for perhaps the last time in their lives — under the “Honor Flight” program.

Now, for those who aren’t aware, this memorial is in an open-air park, it was paid for with private funds, and it is unattended. According to its website, it is open to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

That is, until the Obama administration doesn’t get its way. That’s when this kind of disgraceful idiocy occurs:

Again, out of pure spite, Barack Obama ordered the open-air memorial barricaded to prevent access. He also ordered the arrest of veterans entering the grounds.

How do I know Obama’s actions were motivated by pure spite? Courtesy of John McCormack, here’s the barricade around the World War I Memorial:

So we know as a matter of fact, not speculation, that the barricades were intended to spit in the faces of veterans visiting the Memorial for perhaps the first and last time in their lives.

Earlier today, Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act request to get to the bottom of this outrageous act on the part of an administration that is completely out of control. Governor Sarah Palin also called for civil disobedience.

This is why I liken Obama to a petulant six-year old throwing a temper tantrum when he doesn’t get his own way.

Which reminds me that, a while back, I wrote about this kind of behavior in some detail in an article entitled: “FOREVER SIX: The Traits of a Narcissist“.

Perhaps the truckers and bikers visiting D.C. over the next week and a half will drop by the Memorial to show their respect.
