QOTD: ““I must study politics and war,” John Adams said, “that my sons may have the liberty to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, and naval architecture, navigation, commerce, and agriculture, in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain.” In Harry Reid’s America a man must win political office so that his sons may have the liberty to practice law and register as lobbyists, engage in rent-seeking and government relations and crisis management and communications, in order to give their children a right to live in Brooklyn, to enroll in the New School, to visit the Vermont Studio Center, to have cronies finance their off-off-off-Broadway shows, to enjoy their allowance from grandpa. This is the arrangement put before the voters this coming Election Day; this is the “system” rigged to benefit the family Reid; this is the configuration of power that Charles and David Koch want to disrupt. MIND-BLOWING: 45% of aliens apprehended crossing into the U.S.at the border have criminal records

Guest post by The Machiavellian

I finally came across the FY 2013 figures for the removal of illegal aliens and these numbers are mind numbing. If ever there was an argument against tolerating illegal immigration, this is it.

These numbers blow the mantra that “these are good people just trying to make a living” out of the water. It is an absolute falsehood that attempts to hide us from the truth. And, what is the truth?

In FY 2013, ICE removed 368,644 aliens. Of these, 133,551 were caught inside the United States. Eighty-two percent of this group were previously convicted of a crime. In other words, 109,511 aliens with criminal records were loosed upon the citizenry of the United States. If only good, hard working people looking to better themselves crossed our borders illegally, then how is this number even possible?

ICE breaks down the interior criminal deportees even more into Levels 1, 2, and 3. Level 1, refers to those convicted of aggravated felonies. Level 2, describes offenders convicted of other felonies or three or more misdemeanors. Level 3 criminals are those who have committed misdemeanors which are associated with sentences of less than 1 year.

Of the 109,511 criminals caught in the interior of the U.S., 53,000 were Level 1 offenders, 26,000 were labeled Level 2, and 31,000 Level 3.

Take that in. 53,000 were violent criminals: rapists, murderers, sex offenders, and thieves. Then you add in 26,000 who were convicted of non-violent felonies, plus another 31,000 who have been convicted of one or more crimes.

Once again, if a majority of illegal aliens are hard working, honest people, how do you explain these numbers from ICE regarding interior removals?

If you keep looking at the report, it actually gets worse!

In FY 2013, ICE removed some 235,000 aliens that were caught at the border.106,695 or 45% of those apprehended and removed at the border had criminal records. Of these, 21,000 were Level 1 offenders!

So, one might argue about the interior numbers, that maybe ICE is just targeting criminal, criminal aliens (yes, think about that for a moment), but how do you explain the border apprehensions? Almost half of those caught at the border, have criminal histories, of which over 20% have violent convictions. What do these numbers say about the alien population that does make it across the border? Well, certainly, it should put to rest the idea that only hard working, honest people are illegally entering our nation. Instead, our politicians have unleashed a horde of criminals on us. Illegal immigration not only depresses wages, but ruins the quality of life in the United States by allowing unfit and dangerous people in our nation. Amnesty, I fear will just attract more criminals, looking for new opportunities.

YEP: Harry Reid Blocks Unemployment Benefits for 5 Million Americans to Protect Tax Credits for Illegal Aliens

Guest post by Kenric Ward

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Bowing to a flurry of cost-cutting amendments on a bill extending unemployment benefits, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he will allow votes on “reasonable” reforms. But he didn’t say when.

Reid’s shuffle comes after Republicans blasted the Nevada Democrat for unilaterally blocking amendments that could yield $ 70 billion in taxpayer savings.

“I am not surprised that Senator Reid is backtracking,” said David North. The immigration-law expert praised GOP Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., for her amendment to halt IRS child tax-credit refunds going to illegal immigrants.

“Whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, you could not fail to be impressed by Sen. Ayotte’s move,” North told Watchdog.org.

The policy analyst with the Center for Immigration Studies, called Ayotte’s gambit “a stroke of genius.”

“It provides money to the unemployed while taking undeserved tax refunds away from illegal aliens,” North said.

Ayotte is among a half-dozen Senate Republicans pressuring Reid and majority Democrats to accept cost-cutting reforms in exchange for their votes to extend relief to up to 5.4 million jobless Americans whose benefits are expiring.

Turning up the heat, U.S. Rep. Sam Johnson, R-Texas, assailed Reid for flip-flopping on the IRS’ handling of the child tax-credit program.

“Why does Reid now support allowing illegal immigrants to receive billions in taxpayer dollars? That’s just wrong,” Johnson said.

In 2008, Reid and other Democrats supported H.R. 5140, the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, which provided IRS tax-credit checks to taxpayers and their children. At that time, all recipients were required to provide Social Security numbers to be eligible.

Since then, the IRS has determined that an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, which can be obtained without proof of legal residency, was sufficient to receive the $ 1,000 Additional Child Tax Credit.

Reid and other Democrats acquiesced in the change, arguing that, otherwise, some children with legal residency would be denied benefits.

North, a Democrat, rejected that reasoning.

“If you are born in the U.S., you can get a Social Security number, and, under Ayotte’s amendment, the tax credit, too. Republicans are not taking money away from all children of illegal aliens, just those who are either illegal themselves or non-existent,” he said.

Watchdog last year reported that the IRS mailed thousands of ACTC refunds, totaling millions of dollars, to single addresses around the country.

The nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation estimated that restoring the original 2008 citizenship rule would save approximately $ 24.4 billion annually.

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., expressed “alarm” about what she called improper payments of the child-tax credit, and vowed to stop them. Whether Reid will join her, and accept Ayotte’s amendment as “reasonable,” is undetermined.

Republican U.S. Sens. Dan Coats of Indiana and Rob Portman of Ohio have proposed nearly $ 50 million in additional reforms to offset the cost of extending unemployment benefits.

Coats, in a debate on Thursday, assailed Reid for singlehandedly blockading GOP amendments and blocking votes.

“Do we have just one person who runs the place?” Coats asked. “I am representing the people of Indiana and their voice is shut out.”

Reid’s plan would pay for an 11-month extension of benefits by adding a year of budget sequestration, increasing the deficit by $ 17 billion through 2023.

AWESOME: IRS gives away $4.2 billion to illegal aliens while attacking Tea Party, Christian and Pro-Israel Groups

Guest post by Kenric Ward

WASHINGTON, D.C. — While harrying and stalling tea party groups seeking nonprofit status, the Internal Revenue Service mailed $ 4.2 billion in child-credit checks to undocumented immigrants.

Critics say midlevel IRS bureaucrats continue to abuse the Additional Child Tax Credit program by dispensing $ 1,000 checks to families in this country illegally.

“The law needs clarification that undocumented immigrants are not eligible,” Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, told Watchdog.org in a statement.

AP file photo

LEGAL RESIDENTS ONLY: Sen. Charles Grassley says it was never Congress’ intent for the IRS to issue tax-credit checks to people in this country illegally.

To make Congress’ intent clear – that only legal U.S. residents are entitled to ACTC credits — Grassley co-sponsored a clarifying amendment with Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wy.

“Unfortunately, the majority leader (Harry Reid, D-Nev.) cut off debate, so we weren’t given the chance to offer our amendment,” said Grassley, the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The IRS’ practice of paying out billions to undocumented-immigrant families never received full congressional scrutiny, said David North, a fellow at the enforcement-oriented Center for Immigration Studies.

“I’ve been in government and I know kind of how these things work out,” North told the Washington Times.

“It struck me that (GS) 15s and 16s got together at some point and decided this is how we should handle it, and it stuck,” said North, who wrote “Paying Illegals to Stay,” an analysis of how benefit programs increase illegal immigration.

The IRS has said it doesn’t believe the ACTC law allows the agency to deny payment to undocumented immigrants.

Watchdog reported in June that disbursement of ACTC credits has grown rapidly — and suspiciously — with increased issuance of Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers as substitutes for Social Security numbers.

ITIN holders are not required to prove legal residency, and ITIN applications are running at the rate of 1 million a year.

Federal investigators identified one address in Atlanta where 23,994 ITIN refunds totaling $ 46,378,040 were delivered. A single bank account there received 8,393 refunds.

Records indicate that undocumented immigrants in Virginia received $ 87.9 million in ACTC cash from the IRS. Watchdog reported that $ 163,711 went to a single address in the tiny eastern shore town of Parksley.

In lightly populated Iowa, Grassley’s home state, undocumented immigrants got an estimated $ 30 million.

With an average of 15 percent of ACTC refunds directed to undocumented households nationally, North calculates that roughly half of the money went to ITIN holders who paid “little or no income taxes.”

An audit by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration stated:

“We believe legislation is needed to clarify whether or not refundable tax credits such as the ACTC may be paid to filers without a Social Security number. Such a legislative change could result in cost savings to the federal government of $ 1.8 billion annually.

“As it now stands, the payment of federal funds through this tax benefit appears to provide additional incentive for aliens to enter, reside and work in the U.S. without authorization, which contradicts federal law and policy to remove such incentives.”

The recommendations of that audit, conducted in 2009, have yet to be acted on.

Meantime, the IRS continues to be dogged by controversy over its handling of tax-exempt requests by tea party groups and other conservative organizations.

Judicial Watch this month filed a Freedom of Information lawsuit against the agency asking the District Court for the District of Columbia to compel the IRS to produce records of all communications relating to the review process for organizations seeking 501(c)(4) non-profit status since Jan. 1, 2010.

On May 14, the Treasury inspector general concluded the IRS had singled out groups with conservative-sounding terms such as “patriot” and “tea party” in their titles when applying for tax-exempt status.
