Should you be worried about post apocalyptic survival skills?

Article by Judah Hamilton

With all the craziness going on in the world today, should you be worried about post apocalyptic survival skills? Most people have seen movies like Mad Max or The Road and they feel a certain connection to the characters because they could imagine themselves being stuck in a survival situation. The state of the modern world however constantly suggests that civilization could one day return to this chaotic post apocalyptic environment and there are more and more signs you should be prepared.

I know it is a scary prospect, the world with no society or government, but a catastrophic disaster or financial meltdown could make this nightmare a reality and you would have to be prepared to protect and provide for your family under these circumstances. Everyone should learn basic survival skills because even if a massive hurricane or earthquake cut off the food supply chain things can rapidly deteriorate and you should be prepared.

Post apocalyptic survival skills refer to the basics of survival without modern society, living like hunter gatherers and returning to agriculture and hunting on an individual basis for survival. In the Ipod and Xbox generation this may seem like such an insignificant probability it isn’t worth preparing for; but if it ever were to occur you would be absolutely defenseless.

Developing your post apocalyptic survival skills is important if you subscribe to the maxim:

“it is better to have and not need than need and not have.”

Our ancestors survived off the land and we know it is possible, but our instincts and skills are dulled and diminished by modern technology and civilization. We are truly animals just like any other, but our advantage was our ability to learn and pass on knowledge, not any specific ability that enables other animals to survive.

For this reason we are particularly vulnerable in the event of a catastrophic disaster. Humans need to be to prepared to survive after the apocalypse or they will surely perish. Basic survival skills and survival gear will go a long way in preventing an untimely demise.

The government suggest being prepared for 72 hours of survival but is this really enough? Many people died during Katrina who relied on government aid instead of their own skills and equipment. It is important for all families to be prepared come hell or high water for post apocalyptic survival and you should definitely develop your survival skills in case of a disaster.
