…the terms “left” and “right” are already widely used to denote the basic political alternative, and because that alternative is in fact binary, the best approach for advocates of freedom is not to reject the prevalent terminology but to clarify it—by defining the relevant terms.
The problem with conventional approaches to the left-right political spectrum is that they either fail to define the alternatives in question, or proceed to define them in terms of non-essentials…
…fascism, far from having anything in common with capitalism, is essentially the same atrocity as communism and socialism—the only difference being that whereas communism and socialism openly call for state ownership of all property, fascism holds that some property may be “private”—so long as government can dictate how such property may be used. Sure, you own the factory, but here’s what you may and may not produce in it; here’s the minimum wage you must pay employees; here’s the kind of accounting system you must use; here are the specifications your machinery must meet; and so on…
….The essential issue in politics is not the size but the function of government; it’s not whether government is big or small but whether it protects or violates rights…
The proper purpose of government is to protect individual rights by banning the use of physical force from social relationships and by using force only in retaliation and only against those who initiate its use. A properly conceived political spectrum must reflect this fact. Whatever terms are used to identify the positions of political ideologies or systems must be defined with regard to the fundamental political alternative: force vs. freedom—or, more specifically, rights-protecting vs. rights-violating institutions.
Whether you are an objectivist or a Constitutionalist in the mold of the Framers, on this we can agree: those who paint the right as “Nazis” are either ignorant or lying.
‘I am a Socialist,’ Hitler told Otto Strasser in 1930, ‘and a very different kind of Socialist from your rich friend, Count Reventlow’.
No one at the time would have regarded it as a controversial statement. The Nazis could hardly have been more open in their socialism, describing themselves with the same terminology as our own SWP: National Socialist German Workers’ Party.
Almost everyone in those days accepted that fascism had emerged from the revolutionary Left. Its militants marched on May Day under red flags. Its leaders stood for collectivism, state control of industry, high tariffs, workers’ councils. Around Europe, fascists were convinced that, as Hitler told an enthusiastic Mussolini in 1934, ‘capitalism has run its course’.
One of the most stunning achievements of the modern Left is to have created a cultural climate where simply to recite these facts is jarring. History is reinterpreted, and it is taken as axiomatic that fascism must have been Right-wing, the logic seemingly being that Left-wing means compassionate and Right-wing means nasty and fascists were nasty. You expect this level of analysis from Twitter mobs; you shouldn’t expect it from mainstream commentators.
…I just hope that Lefties who have read this far will have a sense of how conservatives feel when fascism is declared to be simply a point further along the spectrum from them. Whenever anyone points to the socialist roots of fascism, there are howls of outrage. Yet the people howling the loudest are often the first to claim some ideological link between fascism and conservatism.
Parents aren’t the only ones fed up with the education system in America.
Teachers often get a bad rap for the failure of America’s education system and its inferiority to the pedagogic successes of countries like China. But like many Americans who are nothing more than slaves to the mandates of the state, there are tens of thousands of teachers out there who are frustrated with the restrictions being placed on them through regulations and asinine policies.
Ellie Rubenstein is one such teacher. She’s dedicated the last 15 years to teaching her students how to be lifelong learners with an ability to think for themselves. The problem, says Rubenstein, is that her district, state and federal education boards care only about developing robotic myrmidons who follow official state-sponsored doctrines.
After years of struggle, Rubenstein called it quits. She created the I Quit You Can Fire Me channel on Youtube and publicly posted her resignation for her school board and community.
It’s a resignation that every parent in America needs to see:
The emphasis in education has shifted from fostering academic and personal growth in both students and teachers, to demanding uniformity and conformity.
Raising students’ test scores on standardized tests is now the only goal, and in order to achieve it the creativity, the flexibility, and spontaneity that create authentic learning environments have been eliminated.
Everything I love about teaching is extinct.
Curriculum is mandated. Minutes spent teaching subjects are audited. Schedules are dictated by administrators. The classroom teacher is no longer trusted or in control of what, when, or how she teaches.
Even everybody’s favorite – the chickens hatching in kindergarten – has been prohibited. Why? so that the district can spend that money instead on computerized testing programs and training teachers to raise those teachers’ test scores.
But I care more about the people my students become than about the scores on the tests they take.
I thought I’d be a teacher the rest of my life. But I no longer feel I’m doing anything meaningful.
I have to get out before my sense of self and self-worth is completely obliterated.
Unless you are a ‘yes’ man, you will soon find out your only choice is to become one or leave.
Indeed. And who can argue that this is the same choice many of us are faced with across whatever industry or career we choose as adults?
Watch Ellie Rubenstein expose the inner workings of America’s indoctrination centers (via The Daily Sheeple):
Real teachers, the ones who care about their students, the ones who teach kids to think critically and not just recite things by rote, are being targeted. Why?
Because our public indoctrination centers, also known as schools, don’t want children to think.
They want children to learn specified “facts” in order to pass standardized tests, thus creating perfect little worker bees. They want to produce adults who will not question authority or the status quo, but merely assimilate what they are told as truth, and act accordingly.
Because of this, the school system is losing those teachers who could make a real difference in the future of our country.
President Ronald Reagan once weighed in on this conversation and succinctly explained the risks to America’s future:
“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.”
Every aspect of Americans’ self worth and fundamental belief systems are being targeted – from cradle to grave.
DOJ: Social Media Posts Trashing Muslims May Violate Civil Rights
In its latest effort to protect followers of Islam in the U.S. the Obama Justice Department warns against using social media to spread information considered inflammatory against Muslims, threatening that it could constitute a violation of civil rights.
[Ed.: Apparently the DOJ needs to read the Bill of Rights again and, in particular, the First Amendment.]
The move comes a few years after the administration became the first in history to dispatch a U.S. Attorney General to personally reassure Muslims that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is dedicated to protecting them. In the unprecedented event, Attorney General Eric Holder assured a San Francisco-based organization (Muslim Advocates) that urges members not to cooperate in federal terrorism investigations that the “us versus them” environment created by the U.S. government, law enforcement agents and fellow citizens is unacceptable and inconsistent with what America is all about.
…Evidently that was a precursor of sorts for an upcoming Tennessee event (“Public Disclosure in a Diverse Society”) that will feature the region’s top DOJ official [Bill Killian], who serves as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee, and an FBI representative. The goal is to increase awareness and understanding that American Muslims are not the terrorists some have made them out to be in social media and other circles, according to a local newspaper report. The June 4 powwow is sponsored by the American Muslim Advisory Council of Tennessee.
The area’s top federal prosecutor, Bill Killian, will address a topic that most Americans are likely unfamiliar with, even those well versed on the Constitution; that federal civil rights laws can actually be violated by those who post inflammatory documents aimed at Muslims on social media. “This is an educational effort with civil rights laws as they play into freedom of religion and exercising freedom of religion,” Killian says in the local news story. “This is also to inform the public what federal laws are in effect and what the consequences are.”
…Over the years the Obama administration has embarked on a fervent crusade to befriend Muslims by creating a variety of outreach programs at a number of key federal agencies. For instance the nation’s Homeland Security covertly met with a group of extremist Arab, Muslim and Sikh organizations to discuss national security matters and the State Department sent a controversial, anti-America Imam (Feisal Abdul Rauf) to the Middle East to foster greater understanding and outreach among Muslim majority communities.
The Obama Administration has also hired a special Homeland Security adviser (Mohamed Elibiary) who openly supports a radical Islamist theologian and renowned jihadist ideologue and a special Islam envoy that condemns U.S. prosecutions of terrorists as “politically motivated persecutions” and has close ties to radical extremist groups.
The president has even ordered the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to shift its mission from space exploration to Muslim diplomacy and the government started a special service that delivers halal meals, prepared according to Islamic law, to home-bound seniors in Detroit. [And who] could forget Hillary Clinton’s special order allowing the reentry of two radical Islamic academics whose terrorist ties have long banned them from the U.S.?
In other words, criticizing Islamofascism — the political strain of Islam — could very well be criminalized by the Obama-Holder administration. The Islamist term for this crime is “Blasphemy”, which may include one or more of the following crimes:
- speaking ill of Allah - finding fault with Muhammad - speculating about how Muhammad would behave if he were alive - drawing a picture to represent Muhammad - whistling during prayers - flouting the rules prescribed for Ramadan - reciting Muslim prayers in a language other than Arabic - consuming alcohol - gambling - being alone with persons of the opposite sex who are not blood relatives - finding amusement in Islamic customs - publishing an unofficial translation of the Qur’an - practicing yoga - watching a film or listening to music - wearing make-up on television - insulting religious scholarship - wearing the clothing of Jews or of Zoroastrians - participating in non-Islamic religious festivals - converting from Islam to Christianity
This crime is, in many cases, punishable by death. In other words, you are no longer living in America.
